Dancehall hardcore fans and music enthusiasts are ever at war among themselves as to which one of their celebrated artists is better. The lovers of Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, popularly known as Shatta Wale in the showbiz, wage a bitter rivalry with the fans of Livingstone Etsey Setekla, also known as Stonebwoy, in what is known as “BEEF” in the showbiz world.
This may be fun to those fans who understand healthy competition in the music industry and do it just for the sake of entertainment, but irritatingly a bad attitude for those who take it like the hunt for Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden is in vogue all over again, after the recent commemoration of the 9/11 disaster victims.
The later of the fans should rethink their position because every gifted person has something unique to their talents. Why compare two distinct great artists when each has his own style, inspiration and swag to create, promote and sell his art to the world?
These two artists have different songs receiving so much air play, divers nominations and awards, country-wide and beyond. As to what the fans think makes one artist better than the other, is a question most fans are yet to truthfully answer to themselves.
Let us praise, support and celebrate our acts rather than perpetrating unnecessary descrimination which will ruin the reputations of our artists’ fan base and damaging a possible future for the upcoming talents.
Every artist, the world over, has different ways of doing similar things but in differing style, flair and glamour. Even that does not make one individual artist any better than the other. If we continue doing things like this, our entertainment industry will suffer a drought of talents as artists whose careers are affected by the elements of such “beefs” and an eventual collapse of their respective fan base. When this happens, whichever socio-economic benefit the artist affected might have generated for himself and the country as a whole will also take a hit…
